 boston chocolate cake

2/3 cup shortening (solid type)
1 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 cups boiling water
4 squares of chocolate
2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat over to 350o. Grease and flour a 9 x 13” pan. Pour the boiling water over the chocolate; set aside.

Sift dry ingredients; set aside. Cream the shortening with an electric mixer. Add sugar and cream thoroughly. Add eggs and beat the mixture until light and fluffy. Add the dry ingredients alternately with chocolate/water mixture, ending with flour. Add vanilla.

The batter will be very liquid; this is as it should be. Do not add any more flour.

Bake for 35 minutes at 350o.
